Dixie Chicks

X2, probably around somewhere, keep a eye out!  It broke your defensive once, sad to say but it will probably be looking for another fast meal.   You have to find it and kill it IMHO!

Gah!I've heard if you stick dog hair around they'll keep more distance. Or an old wife's tale?

If a predator got your quail your chickens probably know something is around and are stressed. That's my guess...

Good point! Well I got 3 eggs again today, still not the expected 6-8 (never got 8, 6 has been the best number for a few days at the end of winter)

Egg eating could be a possibility. I'll change the nest boxes to almost no shavings and try get an egg roll away angel in there.
Got 3 eggs today but accidentally broke 2. Geez I have skills.

Outpost, if the vet isn't a last resource I'd cull.

Vehve, nice head board! You got skills, but I knew that with your coop and bunny house. Lol.

I picked up a pair of Cayuga ducks today. We improved the chicken tractor with a big board underneath so nothing can dig in.
The 2 ducks are a bit shy but I'll gibe them a few days to settle I'm and then start taming.
I was told the female just went through a molt and then got moved into a dark breeding pen. She has been upset bit should soon begin to lay again.

They almost have the ramp figured out. They try to walk up beside each other only for one to fall off.:)

Please check out the Virginia thread.
Someone told me of a problem they were having with chicken eating eggs. They said they had a problem last year and got rid of most or a lot or all not sure, because their entire flock were eating their own eggs.

They have started over with new chickens from many different places and they have the problem starting again and he told me of all types of feed he is giving his chickens. Sounds like they are all eating well, by what he says.
I tried To help with diggestions as to what causes this. Just think of what was happening.
My hubby even suggested it may be a mouse that is causing problems.
If anyone can think of some solution to add or possible weakness please feel free to add. I fact I welcome anyones and everyones input as we all Learn from others.
I personally have never experinced this type of problem. Never. If I see a cracked egg laying under a perch I remove it. I make sure there are many nest boxes. What a terrible feeling for a girl to want to lay her egg and the box is full of another chicken sitting.
Suggestions please?

I had some egg eaters once, don't know why, I think when one breaks one open it's over, they know there is something good in there. I put golf balls and fake eggs in the nests now I think it helps, they peck at them and don't break.
I've heard you can break them of it by blowing out a raw egg and filling it up with mustard, never tried it before but I hear it works.

Vehve,

How about a seat cushion for the chair with colors of both the headboard and coverlet....maybe pinstripes or a paisley? It wouldn't be hiding the chair and would tie everything together.

Now I'll stuff my inner Martha back into her canister.
