Dixie Chicks

I have a feeling the other 2 of the incubated eggs are gone too. One of them has had a triangle in the aircell for over 24hrs, no movement though.

The last 2 of the rescues from broody do however have movement! Surprise surprise! No idea how far along they are since broody didn't sit too well I figure.

At this point I am very torn on weather or not broody should get the ducklings now since additional hatches may not happen for days!.

As to color.... In my muscovy the really light silver still hatch with a light silvery wash where ever the adult silver feather will be.... They do not hatch yellow.

My disappointing clutch of muscovies this year.... I rescued all eggs that hadn't hatched and put the good ones in the incubator... I kinda hate it when I do that... But can't help myself... They are the eggs that the flock mates added WAY far into incubation, so you have no idea how old the eggs are... When hatch is supposed to happen... All just guess guess guess... And then you hatch out one or two ducklings every week for the next month (or at least it feels like that)

Luckily, ducklings are pretty good at letting me mix ages.... Or I have no idea how I would manage.

So, one of those silly extra eggs hatched... It is in the brooder with 12 quail and 2 more quail eggs that will maybe/maybe not make it.

Dunno what I will do with it..... It isn't a cool pattern..... But who wants to buy a singleton duck????

@Alaskan yupp, I've got one more pip! So happy, but still late? And another one still has movement.

@perchie.girl nice sketch. What are you hatching?

Well... We've got a fire not far from here. My guess is about 20km away from here. Still out of control. One of the water bomber planes crashed and the pilot died. :(

WOW! that is bad!

crud... one of the newly hatched quail got itself totally wet, and then wedged between the waterer and the wall of the brooder (yes, there are glass beads in the waterer)

The quail hatched with a duckling, I stuck him under the duckling... it looks like the duckling will play blanket. I will check in 10 minutes and see...

I also shifted the waterer

Al, get pictures of the pair. Must be pretty cute.

BC, that's horrible. Both the fire, and the crash. Is it that dry there? I thought you just had some snowfall a while back.

I forgot to mention, I caught my very first mouse yesterday. We've had a visitor in the feed storage cabinet, and I got a mouse trap a couple of weeks back. He's been evading the trap so far, setting it off without being caught, but today he had not been as lucky. Now he's going to become compost.

Keep safe, it's going to be a nasty fire season for both our proveniences... We have a lot of lightning, thankfully with rain lately... A few fires are burning and the one is huge, but its a good 200km away... My sister in laws BF just got pulled out of an oil field 10km away from the fire that is near you... Sad about the pilot, must be the first death in a long time for our forest fire fighters....
Keep safe like I said

The Problem is it has been windy here so any kind of rain is just gone. We've had very little rain so far. Kinda waiting for thunderstorm season, they usually bring rain. In the summer time, our grass actually stays green without human input..

No news is good news right?
Everyone but a skeleton crew got pulled from foster creek/air weapons range. (CLAWR). Emergency procedures are in place should they have to shut down the oil site.
