Dixie Chicks

Weirdest thing... have a Silkie pullet just started laying and a Cuckoo Marans mix pullet just started laying... Silkie's egg is larger than the Cuckoo's...

lol... that's my Lav Am breeder boy... he was hot when I took that pic, even more hot now so gonna get more pics when it cools a bit...

Had to upgrade my profile pic now I have a several good lines for breeding...

Blue egg genes are passed to either pullets or cockerels, Cream Legbars should all carry 2 copies but if outcrossed the offspring will only carry 1... so 25% chance of offspring passing it to his kids when bred to another mix...
ugh thats poopy odds

Sorry 'bout those odds... and only way to see is to breed him and wait til his daughters start laying...

Silkie eggs are bigger than quail eggs, this is about regular size for a hen... Cuckoo egg looks like a large grape, lol...

Most of our pullets didn't start really small, just a bit smaller than regular sized... Jim thought it was normal so these tiny ones have him worried, lol...

50 lectures them when they did it :p

ok so I got lost somewhere along the genetic road lol..............so an outcross from a colored egg chicken has a 25% chance of carrying the colored egg gene?

A first cross of a blue egg layer (one with 2 copies of blue egg gene) will have only 1 copy of the blue egg gene... the 2nd outcross from the first has a 25% chance of getting that single copy of blue egg gene...

I can't make a chart on my phone, but will see if I can find a pic to help...
