Dixie Chicks

Spoke to SandHill. I'm next on white j giants, next on blue langshans, and only a order of four and another for five of the black langshans before me so I think I'll get them next hatch unless they only put a halfdozen eggs in the bator. So I told them July hatches is fine, waited this long already.
Beer can, why giants and Langshans? I like them too!

I hope July is a safe time to ship because it's so hot. Maybe it's a good thing , I don't know.

Omg, the express live mail department called! They found them, they are alive! They asked me to email permission over to feed and water them until they have to leave. They're trying to get them on a commercial flight to their final destination so they don't have to wait on fedex!
OMG!!!! I'm so glad they were found!

Please notice the shape of the combs & wattles, the shape of English orpingtons and not Wyandottes. Please notice the color of feet not wyandottes. Then please notice my amature attempt at an unheard of Blue Laced Red English Orpington by noticing the feather coloration. I am still working on it.

They are still beautiful!!! He sure looks big. I love that color.

You really think the comb will be true to a wyandotte considering it will be half Orpington and half Wyandotte? Gee, I dont want that maybe the blue eng orp girl will work out after all. I was going to try to add in lavenders and pull out the red girl leaving the blue laced red and lavender girls The thing is, I have to give away what is not my best efforts. Real Estate is precious. No room at the inn if I will not be breeding them. I have a few chicks in the workshop I am waiting to see how they look. If they dont look the way I need them to, they will be given away! I have to give away all my English Orpingtons that get mixed by color whither deliberately by me or by accident. I only sell the true Blues, lavenders, reds, chocolates when I have time. I have only 1 spangled Black left I hope Woodsdweller wants it with the Lavenders I am giving him tomorrow. I dont need anymore lavenders an I dont have the time to go down the mountain to sell on Sat morn so they are free tomorrow. I am the person that takes Eng orp chicks to flock swaps and if there are any left over and I have been there about 2 hours I give them away rather than being them back home. I never bring chicks back home from a flock swap if they dont sell. I must give away.
I do the same thing, if there is anything left when I'm ready to leave, they are free! I won't bring them home.

Yes, I'm sure you'll get rosecomb.birds. rosecomb is dominant meaning only 1 copy is required to make then show a rosecomb. Unless you get a blrw that's only carrying 1 copy of the rosecomb gene, then you'll get chick's that are 100% rosecomb. I e seen blrw hatch with a single comb so zi know it is possible to get a blrw with a single comb. Most people cull then as chick's though cause they don't want them in their program.

Oh, I seen where you were ready to give those bresse away! Gosh, I wish I was closer! I sneak then back across the state lines.

Today I hear a hen screaming. I think we all know when you hear a normal bok-bok, a warning bok-bok, a 911 bok-bok. This was worse. I jump up and see my only Buff Orp being chased and nabbed by the geese who mean to kill her. I flew out the door and got her. I held her for about an hour and she did not want to go back to her flock. She has always leapt into my arms when she needed me. Like when it's dark and she can't find the pen. She was very happy to be with me.

I do love Orps. Where my Jerseys are lay back and easy going, and like to hang out with me (with or without wine), I've only had 2 BO's so far and find them to be very intelligent and very business-like when it comes to eggs. And they know what they want and are determined to get it. It's funny how each breed or chicken has a personality all it's own.

With reinforcing coops, someone mentioned dog run panels. Good and strong. I have one pen that is 10x13 , is all hardware cloth including the ground under the dirt. No body gets in. That's where my youngsters go. I also have some Premier electric fencing. I don't think anyone's tested it yet.

I use Dog kennel panels like this three different kinds.... Twelve foot by six foot no door. Six foot by six foot no door. And finally six foot by six foot with a door. The wire is chainlink... but like chicken wire its only good for keeping chickens in or out.... Chainlink is only good at... Keeping dogs in or out...

I line any part that a chicken may come against with hardware cloth... On the walls that are exterior to the enclosure where other animals may be trying to get in. So internal partitions the most I do is use that green plastic barrier mesh ... to keep chicks in or juvies from slipping through.

I used to have a couple of aviaries as well as a neighbor gave me because his dad was retiring from raising birds. All these are made of 12.5 gauge wire spaced 1/2 x 3 inches.... after a predator attack on my guineas I covered the outside of my existing coop with these panels.

12.5 gauge wire is .08 diameter.... Not only can you NOT get your fingers through it takes special tools to bend it. An Angle grinder to cut it.... A saws all works but hard to control. The nice part of them is across a span of six feet they are self supporting... and you only need a short span like a 6 x 4 foot strip to provide intermediate support for something longer.

So my next coop/house is going to be a combination of these panels. So far I havent come across diggers the ground is very hard here... but Cattle panels are my next purchase for fencing. As well as installing the hotwire that I bought for keeping goats.

Just last night I did quite a bit of research for someone looking for hardware cloth and finally found a supplier for the aviary wire.. (the company that built my aviaries has switched over to rabbits only... sigh) So when I do the new build I am tempted to use new wire rather than old...

this is why I want to use this particular wire

its extremely simple to make things attach to it....
