Awesome deb! I would love to visit the Grand Canyon someday. I'd like to do the donkey tour. Watching YouTube vids of it though I don't know if I could handle it lol.
I'm right now reading a book 'Finding Everett Ruess', interesting but kinda dull. He wandered alone with burros when he was a teenager through the southwest in the early 1930s doing paintings and blockprint engravings. He ventured deep into what was then little known 'wilderness' of the Grand Canyon and other sites. He disappeared without a trace in the Utah desert at age 20.

LOL... MULES not donkeys. unless things have changed. Mules are horse sized. and are as sure footed as donkeys.

Believe me if you havent ridden you WILL be sore in places you never thought could get sore... its a 28 mile round trip. Many experienced riders would be sore... though there is a lodge down at the bottom that you can book a room for the night. I believe reservations are filled early in the year

Lol, I think your right. Can't find donkey tours.
When the wife was looking at it a few ys ago I swear it was donkeys, had a weight limit, I didn't think mules would have one. The vids she showed me they had huge ears. It was a place that also did a overnight camping trip. What bothered me was the riding the darn thing on the edge of cliffs that went straight down so far it was scary looking, on a little path.

Edited to add, I think it might have been the place you linked, they have a two day trip with meals.
If I remember right youtube vids were SCARY!, would love to do it though.

Edited to add again;
  • Phantom Ranch: Riders must weigh less than 200 pounds (90 kg), fully dressed
  • Canyon Vistas: Riders must weigh less than 225 pounds (102 kg), fully dressed

Yup, that's the place. Wife picked on me said I'd have to loose weight to go.I'm usually between 220-230, 6'1" , I was 190 when I left stone quarrying hard labor, 190 when I was in boot camp Army. Don't think I'll ever be there again. Dropped to 203 when work had a 'biggest loser' competition went no carb all vegis and protein, lost 27lbs , 58yr old man won it lost 55 lbs, won the 'Insanity' work out videos, they should have gave him 'sweating with the oldies' Lol!
I gained it all back, love food and beer too much...

@perchie.girl , I'm super excited for Dean! That's awesome! What a great opportunity for him. Keep us posted. My son has been traveling a lot. He calls or text me usually at least once a day. Even though he's all grown up and married, I still worry about him. You know.

I was walking with my cousin yesterday morning and we were talking about how amazing it is that both of our girls exuberate confidence-unlike us when we were young. My 9 year old is in 4th grade and didn't bat an eye this week when she told me she's running for student council. Ummmm....OK. She has already wrote up her campaign speech, but she won't know until later today if she is even in the running. LOL!

I noticed yesterday that loosing all those pullets and cockerels, I lost my only 2 cuckoo marans cockerels

. That was part of my breeding plan come this spring. Cuckoo marans rooster over easter egger hens = olive egger and
cuckoo marans rooster over olive egger hens = further generation olive egger= darker olive egg and

Whew... I thought I was being over protective.....but now I realize I am just being a Mom. That job never ends.

Its awesome that your girls are so confident... I was Not socially aware at that age much less working on confidence

OH and to add .... sorry about your chicken losses. I know how you feel. after the last go round I havent rebuilt and its going on four years now. There is a gal here in San Diego. she offeres up incubation services. But she also raises Super Blue Eggers. Creme Legbar/Ameracana crosses. When I get going again I hope to get some of her F2 hybrids... or if she doesnt have them I may raise up some of my own.

I have also found a source for Black Quechua Olmec.... they are a fibro bird. They also carry Barbizeux.... a new to me breed... and very interesting too.

The gal I have been speaking to has ordered Barbizeux from them and she is in San Diego. So I hope to get some hatching eggs from her. ButI really want some of the Olmecs above.
