Got a duck egg today! no clue if it's from the blue sweedish crosses or muscovy... It's small, but could be from any one with the laying just starting.... Well not a rouen it's white/cream coloured not green.

Pineapple farming is crazy, a crop that needs 2 years and 20 square feet per fruit, and is sold at a couple bucks a piece. Not very cost-effective or ecological.

4 chicks still alive, and eating. Haven't seen them drink yet though.

Although now that I think about it, an euro from a wheat field here requires 200 square feet, so maybe pineapple farming isn't that bad.

Have you ever seen a full grown pineapple plant?



Each plant is some where around six feet in diameter.

yet they can get somewhere around 25000 and 33000 plants per acre.... ONe fruit per plant BTW.

I've only seen pics from a pineapple farm in Mauritius, there they were spaced several feet apart. That pic looks more efficient.

After the plant fruits it dies.... But before it completely reabsorbs the nutrients it sprouts baby plants which can be replanted.

And of course you can plant the tops of the Pineapple to grow more.

Oh and another pineapple tid bit. EACH of those leaves on the main plant are SPEARS of agony.... I suspect people who harvest by hand wear leather everything....

But I becha Dole has figured out how to do it by machine.
