Dixie Chicks

Knock me over with a feather.... Antique shipped eggs... And look what I have!!!

That is 4 chamois colored Appenzeller Spitzhauben chicks, and one that I think was supposed to be a silver crossed to chamois? But its color is wild! Coolest thing ever!

I might even end up with a couple more chicks... Give me two days and I will tell ya.

Can't tell ya how happy I am, I have been so very wanting this color, I think it is the prettiest color to ever sit on a chicken.

Here is a photo from the internet, so you all know why I am drooling:

That's cool as crap Alaskan! WoW! Awesome! Those are awesome birds!
Woman I know near me PhoredaBurds, I was supposed to get cemanis from, I still can and probably should, was getting rid of them so she can focus more on her different colors of Spitz. She has some cool ones, look awesome with their 'Mohawks' awesome looking birds.I see she's on the auction thread often. I never checked it out before, what do all those nuts do with all those eggs they hatch out? What the heck do you do with a hundred plus chicks? And they are foaming at the mouth for more! Chicken freaks!
I plan on picking up a dozen plus hatching eggs, German New Hampshire's, from Eight Acres Farm on our way back from Florida in a couple weeks, 'Boss' gave the OK as long as I don't buy gator meat....Hopefully I am not blowing $45 on my first attempt at hatching...who da freak?....

Beer, that is who sent me the eggs! PhoredaBirds or whatever.

Aw man, now I am scared for you... You couldn't try to incubate your own eggs first huh? At oeast get the incubator calibrated first, and put at least one white egg in there, so you have an easy to candle egg.

That's who my friend got the blue Spitzes from! :gig

I'm going to incubate them together, holds 42. That way I have a 'control' or whatever I hope. Might be dumb, but we will be driving right through near there, gotta be better than mailing, some other time, FL to NY is a long way to mail.
Alaskan, I can't incubate my own eggs right now for the same reason I backed out of those cemanis for the moment, we're leaving for a week last week of April for FL. Not my idea, I hate it, love being elsewhere, but hate leaving home...

aww how exciting so cant wait to see how they feather out :)

Alaskan, those are super cute! I almost got a German Spitz batch of birds, but decided it's not in the cards right now.

Cat got loose yesterday and much to my surprise, she came back to the coop at feed time:D. Does anyone else keep cats in the coop/barn? I have questions.....
Chickens are afraid of her. I don't want them to feel comfortable with all cats as we have tons of ferrel cats in the neighborhood. The cat eats layer feed and rabbit feed, not that we FEED it to her, crazy cat.....we grab her up the second she starts eating their food. Not sure where we would put her food out there where the chickens won't eat it all. And no idea where to put the litter box out there. Right now, she has free rein over the garage. All her food, water, litter box is out there. Until yesterday, she had made no attempt to escape. Any suggestions anyone?

Got to get to work. Going back to dr on my lunch break. Been sick for about a month now. Can't breath. Bronchitis and sinus infection they said last time. Took all meds & only doing worse. Have a good day everyone.

JWB, hope you get better soon. Karin's dad is going on 6 weeks of a nasty cough that sounds like it's coming from the lungs. He's finally getting better, but viral stuff just takes it's time.

Make that 4th chick making it's way out.

Hennible how is your pregnancy going?

Good, but I'm pretty uncomfortable and beat up. Hard time of year to be pregnant for me, so much to do.

JWB my cats don't bother my chickens (or ducks), if any thing it's the other way around lol
Never have mouse issues that's for sure. Mine are not coop or barn cats though. Hope you feel better soon.
