DIY coop cleaner spray

Have never found any reason to use anything liquid to clean coop.

I use a poop board with sand/PDZ mix(sifted daily).
Lots of dry shavings on floor(total change out in fall).
Any big or wet poops on roosts or ramps get scraped(with short handled hoe) onto floor or into poop bucket, maybe a sprinkle and scrape with PDZ or shavings.

'Keep it dry'' is my motto, then you never have to worry about areas that won't dry after 'wet' cleaning or residual cleaning agents.

has anyone used a diluted bleach solution?

i'm getting ready to do a coop over haul.. i scoop out poopy shavings every 2 days and do a full clean out every 2 weeks.. i could be excessive, but it's a small coop.. if i can smell poop, i imagine it's worse for them.. :)

I don't do a full clean out as frequently as every 2 weeks, but I do have to scrape down perches and replace all shavings in nesting boxes at least once a month. Living in the heat and humidity of Florida, I definitely do use a very light bleach solution on the surfaces. I try to choose dry days and spray in the morning when everyone's out free ranging so it's dry by the time they get back in the evening. I also spray neem oil or another similar insecticide to treat for mites every couple of months. We have such a battle with bacteria and pests here that I don't want to risk either not using any liquid or just using vinegar. A light spray of a light bleach solution and neem oil spray has worked best for me.

only once i gave the floor and walls a very diluted bleach/water spray.. but i do a lot of scooping and fresh shavings too.. at least every 2 weeks, the coop gets all old shavings out and new in.. and i sprinkle herbs in there to keep flies away.. oregano.. stuff like that.. and cinnamon in outside cracks, ants HATE that..

Bleach doesn't work inside porous surfaces, so some recommend oxine for wood. I use vinegar. Bleach is great for non-porous surfaces, especially metal or cement, which vinegar will tend to erode or corrode. The keep-it-dry method works great, but I still clean the coop once in a while.
