Oh, believe me, my cats know they aren't supposed to scratch the furniture. One will pause mid-scratch to make sure I notice her, staring me down. If I don't look, she will try to scratch again (to get my attention), if I look, she runs away. Running from the spray bottle is a great game to them. They mock me I swear. Just like my dog who will get in the front seat of the car when I get out to go in the store, and then if she sees me coming across the parking lot she will hop in the back again. She knows she isn't supposed to be in front, but does it anyway if she thinks I won't catch her. These pets of ours are not dumb
That must be nice. When my cat would scratch the side of my furniture and I’d look at her she just give me the middle finger with her eyes as she continued to scratch until I had to make her stop. That’s why the cardboard is there. That and I’m sure she does plenty of it when I’m not home
