Sorry...don't have any pics of that. Never thought it was something one would want to take a pic of, really.

Quote: I use auto fill dog bowls for water They are open at the top. So I set the bowl under the table. The table is about Knee height.

dog bowl....

I got tired of messing with the fountains plus logistically I cant be there every day.... the dog bowls provide water 24/7 when the temps outside can get to 110 Its important they never run out. The little tables are sturdy enough to let the chickens walk about on them. They also provide shade in the event the sun creeps over where the water is. They are simple to clean too... Toilet brush and if they are nasty a little vinegar rinse.

Might not work if the fountain waterer is too tall or setting up high on blocks....

Thanks! That wouldn't work in my area due to freezing temps in winter. But I like the idea of using the table.

I got some of the "foot stool" things like that which I originally put out here and there for something to run under if there was a hawk attack. I think those would work to put over an open bowl too if I had the room. I water inside the coop which would take up too much space for mine..

I don't like open bowls in winter due to frostbite issues, but that would keep them from mistakenly stepping into a bowl I imagine. Not sure if it would keep them from dragging larger wattles through the water though.

This girl is standing on one of the foot stool things.

Goes to show how different our climates are.... Here I have seen them dip their whole faces in clear past their beak purposly to get their wattles wet.... To help with the heat. Thats why I would not go for nipple waterers here. Unless I also had a dog bowl one in addition.

It does freeze here but by the time the sun comes up there is free water floating on the surface. My coop space is pretty large so the tables work well. though it would be doable by building a shelf or a box to slide the waterer under. They dont have to have access all the way around.... My next coop will have waterers that are external like feed hoppers. With chicken head spaced bars for them to access the water Same for feed Kind of like you see at the feed store in those chick brooders. Feed and water supplied and maintained from the outside with minimal chance for contamination from the inside.

Ours dip in summer too. In the summer (in addition to the indoor waterer) I put pyrex pans (13x9ish) in several places throughout the range area that they can stand in and dip faces, etc.

I also will not use the nipples for various reasons.

If you ever build that water system I'd love to see some photos of how you devise it. I really like the small cup waterers that would work well in that kind of system. Decided not to mess around with keeping the necks from freezing in the winter since I'm away at work during the day. Thus the new glass waterers.

Did you see the videos of how they set those up? I'll post them for you if not.

(Showed both the cup waterers and the glass waterer earlier in this thread.)

i am a nipple guy.

sure beats cleaning slime from founts or worrying they are empty

our temps are 78 at night 88 during day.

That's why I like the cups. Same idea. Easy to clean and work very well, same convenience as the nipples... and a little more natural way of drinking for a chicken.

I wrote a review of them on another thread that I could link. They're supposed to be on a pvc pipe system but I used them on buckets. If they need cleaning you just twist them to turn them over and swish it out with a finger. Love those things.
