I use these....




Cup is always full...the yellow things is a float, not a trigger. So far so good. I do not use it in freezing temps though..

That's interesting, haven't seen these before.
I assume that as the water level in the cup drops, the float drops and a valve opens to release more water from the vessel.
Wonders if the chooks pushed down on the float repeatedly, even when the cup is full, the cup might overflow?

I wanted to try those but they are made out of the US. Did they ship to US? I couldn't find a US distributor.

The hole you drilled in your bucket is too big. You have to drill it so that it is tight when you screw it in. I have the right size somewhere in my stuff if you want to try again with the right size hole. Let me know and I'll look it up.

I did some looking on ebay and found this one for back yard/home use. The yellow float is for commercial use according to the description.

Thanks, Diz78... Here is another item I just finished earlier today... Can't claim this as my invention, though Pat Pending (a close friend of mine) says otherwise.... This new chick feeder had to be a quick & easy production for our three new family members. Made by hand carving two spalted elm base/end plugs which easily twist into a 2" diameter (scrap) of PVA water pipe. Holes drilled and sanded for each of the chicks. Easy filling and cleaning with the twist-off ends Here are the three cute little recipients of my labors....

Looking at this, I wonder if you could use one of those paper towel holders that mounts to the wall and then cut the PVC pipe slightly longer than a paper towel roll so it wedges in really well.

Well...it might not stand alone with much stability, but you could screw it to a wall with an awning so they don't perch on it.....or screw it to a wider board to sit on the floor!

Keep in mind tho a paper towel roll is only 1 1/2" in diameter...so smaller pipe or make a plug for 2" (or larger) pipe with a 1/2" hole to fit the towel holder.
