Do all chickens have big waddles before they lay?

Catalina- What a clever idea, I should do that. It's really interesting to see the progression from young chicken to egg layer!

I just picked up 4 new chickens today!

Not so. They are mutts, therefore they are completely variable. Our EEs laid before anyone else. Besides, even within a breed each hen is different.

Yes, EE's are mutts, I'm not disputing that and I said they "seem" to take a long time before laying. I have read numerous posts on this forum with the poster asking 'when will thier EE's start to lay?' They question this because they were bought at the same time (age) as other breeds that are now laying. I was one of those trying to find out because mine were not laying (they were 27 weeks and no egg yet). I know that all breeds start laying a different times. In fact your post is the first that I've read that they (EE's) started laying earlier than most of us. You are one of the lucky ones.
