Do all chickens usually die with air sacculitus??

Is it ok if we give her the shot on her back since its already in her system now?
Some chose to give the shots subcutaneously in the back of the neck under the skin, and they don't have problems. But Tylan is meant to be given into the muscle, and I chose to give it that way--it is better and quickly absorbed. Some also will give it in the leg muscle, but there is always a chance of hitting the sciatic nerve in the leg. Alternate sides of the breast daily.

what do you mean clean water with bleach? you mean clean their water container with bleach? if so how often? although you have your opinion about culling

. we do all have our own opinion. I can not cull a pet now if I were a BIG TIME chicken farmer like 30 or 40 maybe not sure even then

. I have 7 and I just cant cull her knowing that she could get better and live a long life. I do understand what you mean.

If you will treat chicks with LS-50 followed by a 10 day drug free rest then by 7 days of Aureomycin most of these types problems will disappear.

During the 10 day drug free rest I usually dust the feed with powdered Colostrum one day and then again following the Aureomycin.

I do still have a lot to learn about healthier chickens. I guess I thought if they free ranged they would be the healthiest of all. there is a lot more to it than I realize. I have had this hen (Ethel) for around 3 years and never had any problems with her. I did have one a rooster her same breed from the same person and he died in the summer with a respiratory infection. I had a hen the same breed from the same person I got them at the same time they were like a few days old. Charolett the other hen she passed away around Christmas. something with her crop. she had a HORRIBLE smell from her mouth. we gave antibiotics and it didn't work.

Chickens transfer bacteria mainly thru their drinking fount. To stop this you can put 1/2 oz bleach to 1 gal of water. I do this from the time the chicks hit the ground (7 weeks old) until they die of old age. I use to use 1 oz bleach, but bleach use to be 6% and is now 8%. The bleach also will keep down algae.

Bleach is no excuse for dirty water. Change water often so that it is fresh and clear. Also, you must use non-metallic waterers.

Bleach is a poultryman's best friend.

30 or 40, lol. I usually hatch 500 chicks a year alone. This year I am cutting back though: not a chick over 450! I keep around 200 or so breeders.

Free range chickens are the most likely of all to develop respiratory infections. They get it from wild birds. They will also get mites from wild birds. In the South this is a major problems.

The horrible smell could have been the crop but was most likely coryza.

Never go to a vet; they know nothing about chickens. That is why my vet brother/sister in law call me when someone brings in a chicken. Me and the brother were raised on the same farm, but I watched and listened better. lol.

yes of course. 1/2 oz to 1 gal of water. Not straight! Don't kill them; help them. mix the 1/2 oz in the I gal of water and then put it in a plastic waterer. Change regularly.
