Do all sweet cockerels turn into jerk roosters?

When I was a kid, I kept petting our rooster even though I was told I shouldn't. What happened was he was always sweet to me, but an assh0l3 with the rest of my family. Like he was jealous or something and he'd always peck on them if given the opportunity.

Given that he ended up killing one of our hens, everyone's guess is that he was an aggressive bird anyway. He probably made an exception with me because I raised him since he was a little chick, but overall I'd say roosters are unpredictable.
