Hi, I have four baby chicks, 3 weeks old and very healthy and happy so far! This week I started giving them daily treats, just fresh lettuce leaves and broccoli leaves so far. (They don't like yogurt) I picked up some gravel and grit from a pet store because I read they needed grit to digest food other than their starter feed.
If so, how much should I give them? Should I just add it to their feed or put it in a cup? It has Calcium Carbonate in it- is this okay?

I look forward to some feedback!
Thank you!

Some people sprinkle the grit over the chick's food like you'd do with salt on your food. But you can offer it to them in a bowl and let them help themselves. A bit of grit will help them digest their food better.

You want chick grit from the farm store or coarse sand or something similar. The supplemental calcium found in parakeet grit can be harmful to growing chicks.

I put chick grit in a small dish and let them self-serve. They ate a lot of grit the first day and then very little after that.

Okay, I'll pick up some grit from the farm store. I only gave a little bit of the parakeet grit to my chicks. They loved it. I hope I haven't hurt them in any way!!!
Thanks so much for the advice!
