Our cochin is around 7 months old and is laying an egg almost everyday. She's barred so I'm wondering if this color of cochin has barred rock in her.

She shouldn't have any Rock in her, Rocks and Cochins are pretty different birds so I don't see mixing them together. Rocks are the most common barred breed, but there are others that are barred or cuckoo.

For the most part, the colour of a chicken has nothing to do with its breed. Most chickens come in many colours/patterns (properly called varieties),and most varieties are present in a number of breeds.

Hmmm ok. I was wondering because she's quite a good layer for a cochin. She started laying on Christmas Eve so she's relatively a young layer.

I hear ya on that--I've heard how cochins aren't good layers, but my bantam girls have been my more dependable layers, esp during the winter!

Then again, if she's a new layer, being a cochin, she may lay good for a month or two and go broody........
