Do chickens eat ants?

My 10 week olds will eat ants but the big black ones....They pick them up, fight over them than spit them out....I don't know if it's a taste thing but the others are fair game.

Could it be the breed that makes the difference? We have so many ants that it's becoming unpleasant to go outside; I would love to hear which breeds are eating the ants. This will figure prominently in determining which breed I decide to get next. Thanks!

My alleged roo found his first bug today and the girls chased him everywhere trying to snag it from him. It was very funny to watch

My older RIRs would eat the carpenter ants but my Isa Browns, young RIWs and RIRs ignore them.

Yea, mine just ignore the ants. And can't catch a fly.
