Do chickens know their breed?

I think they have different languages too (like what chickensaresweet said) for example:
my ameraucana goes like "paka paka paka"
my brahma goes like "whhhhaaaaaaaaaaaack whauauak whauauak" (it sounds really different :p)
my silkie has a really high pitched voice, too!

and as i read walkingonsunshine's post, my silkie also hangs around the cornishes (because they are both white .3. )

I think that silkies are very unique, I have 2 flocks about 500m apart. Every now and again the white roo runs the gauntlet ( Wyandotte , coro and sussex Roos ) to pay some special attention to one of the coloured silkies on the other side of the house. He has no interest in the other breeds of hens , walks straight past them.

That's super cute, maybe he's in love! :p

I've never experience this in my coop but it is interesting to hear all of the examples from you guys. I had an idea that it might be because they were hatched in the same incubator since you ordered from a hatchery. Because they separate the breeds and it might just be because the chickens are familiar with each other. I don't know, just and observation, I'm probably not right but just had to put my idea out there.

This little chickie looks just like my baby Cocoa Puffs (rip) the Coyotes got her. she was just getting her beard about 7 months old :(...

e was one of absolute favorites and was just getting a beard...

My half-grown chicks all sleep together on the floor by the door at night. Three of the silkies always lay near each other and the little splash silkie cuddles with the regular old egg layers. Sometimes I don't think s/he realizes s/he's a silkie because that splash almost always hangs out with the egg layers. Actually I don't think the egg layers realize it yet either because they don't ignore him/her the way they ignore the other silkies. Here's a not-so-great picture of them, but I didn't want to take too many and get them all excited as they were winding down for the night. I can't find the little splash or the gold star pullet s/he hangs around with the most in it, but I circled the three other silkies.
