I knew where my geese were laying...same spot as last year under a truck topper that we put near the pond just for that purpose. Thanks to my son and my dad, the geese have abandoned this nest. I try to not go near the nest when the geese are within eye sight of it and I always leave at least 1 egg in the nest so they'll keep coming back. My son, being the 'big' helper that he is (helps whenever HE wants to that is) decided to go down there and get the only egg out of the nest. Then my dad got the bright idea to flip the truck topper over and put 5-6 bales of hay under it...of course he left it flipped over all day
Needless to say, the geese have abandoned this nest area. I haven't found any eggs in probably 2 weeks. I know at least 1 of the girls is laying but I have no idea where she's laying at. I was thinking of sitting out and watching them to see if I could figure it out but I can't very well sit outside all day and night to do it.
So is there any particular time of day that they lay? I know ducks usually lay overnight but I'm not sure about geese. I suppose I could just wait until one of them goes broody, I'm sure the rest of the gaggle will stick close by her, but I'd rather not have them go broody until I'm ready for it
