Do hanging cds work?

I have seen people use hanging cds around there coop. Do they work? Also how do they distract them?(them as in predators) I’m guessing light bounces off the cds and confuses the predator and they make noise but I could be completely wrong.

I've tried the CDs, now got a bunch sitting in a bag. I found pinwheels worked but ONLY if there's a breeze. You're correct, I think the shiny & movement suppose to scare off birds. Did my chickens until they figured it out and walked between the pinwheels, they loved pecking at the CDs

The purpose of them I think is to be an irritation to the predator. The light reflecting off the CD is unpleasant to look at.
