I have got three Golden Cuckoo Marans (although they may not be entirely pure bred) which as chicks all had head spots. Does this mean they are all male?
They are around 5 weeks now, and just wondering if there is any hope for pullets. One is definitely a cockerel.
Thanks for any help!

Pure cuckoo will have head spots for both sexes

Can you post pictures?

The first photo is one of the possible pullets, the second photo is the cockerel and other possible pullet.
The two 'pullets' do seem a bit slow to grow, so could just be a late bloomers.
Any thoughts?

Good to know!
They were meant to be pure GCM, but three of them turned out like this...

the seller said it was a breeding project of many years, and they thought they had got them breeding pure. Is this a wheaten? Thats what they said it was, after we told them about it, but I'm not convinced.... but I hardly know anything about Marans.

A head spot simply means that a bird is barred. Since the variety is golden cuckoo, all chicks will have head spots regardless of gender.
Thanks you, that is what I thought to start with, but then someone told be that head spots meant male and thats when I started to worry!
It is looking like to may be pullets, so I'm pretty excited.
This bird is not pure Marans. It has yellow legs. It does however look quite similar to my Golden Cuckoo Marans at that age color wise.
Which one are you looking at? The only one with yellow legs is this one

The cockerel in this picture has one copy of the barring gene, meaning his color won’t breed true

This cockerel has the correct two barring genes (which is why he’s lighter), but he has the incorrect leg color
