hello everyone and thank you all for welcoming me so warmly since i joined. i have 5 Leghorn chickens that i bought as 1 - 2 yr old laying hens 3 weeks ago and i havent gotten a single egg yet. I have followed the threads on this subject and it seems most people have eggs after about 2 weeks max. I have 3 other hens that are just under a year and am consistently getting 2 eggs a day from them(one is molting).I am afraid that i was taken when i bought these 5 girls as i was just getting started and these were my first adult birds. i think they may be older than i was told and might be past their prime. i started getting chickens for eggs and dont really want to feed without getting something in return, but i like these girls and want to give them a fair chance.i havent looked at the vent because i truly am not sure what to look for. they just kind of look and act old, like tougher, more wrinkly legs and combs that are kind of dry and scaly looking also they seem not to see very well. when they eat they seem to miss their target often and have to try a few times to get what they're after.dont really want to get rid of the girls but need eggs or they'll have to go. thought maybe all my new friends on BYC may be able to help me out ty in advance.
