Yep, it looks pointy from far awayI didn't at first and the iridescence screwed with my eyes.
Is she still crowing? That's pretty interesting, but I did guess pullet initially too! Beautiful eggs though: I think her hormones were just out of wackI thought I would come here to update with some wild news. I noticed that this chicken was growing spurs, I looked it up and found that it can be normal for hens to have spurs. She is an olive egger, as is only one other in my flock. Yesterday I found two olive eggs in the box, which solidified for me that the chicken in question is indeed a hen. This morning, one of my home security cameras captured a crow. Turns out I have a crowing hen with large waddles and spurs!
This is my first flock of chickens, but I understand this phenomenon to be uncommon. I read that hens like Willa may stop laying as they mature with their male attributes. I’m wondering if I brought home a rooster, if it would insure she continues to lay eggs.
Just for fun, here is a photo of the eggs I got yesterday and a link to the video where you can hear her crowing.
I enjoyed digging into posts like this while researching my new chicken hobby.
