Do i have Mallards or Rouens??? updated pics added page 4!

Ok Wifezilla I'll take some of the action! What can we bet? To certify the outcome we will need to either weigh the ducks or take mug shots up aginst a measuring stick.

!Shkittles! :

Well i think my TSC did get them from Mt. Healthy sooooooo i'm thinking mallard cause like OSUman said they don't sell Rouen.

Yep mallards, Ohio TSC for sure get their from Mt Healthey, no Rouens.

Also everyone with mallards need a Federal permit. In Ohio you need both State & Federal permits.

W.CharltonChickens :

When Mallards start feathering out do they go through an immature phase first? Or, do they feather out to male/female right away?

Mallards all mature to a 'phase' (female coloring) before they molt and get their green heads and silver body.

Sorry to keep posting, but I'm answering questions here!

You have mallards. It's definite. I can confirm directly from an employee at Tractor Supply that the ducks and chicks come from Mt. Healthy.

I also bought a duckling (on Easter to be precise) with my chicks, and he's turned into a very pretty boy.

He has yet to go through his female phase and get his big boy feathers, but he's definitely a mallard. I've had them before from Murray McMurray, but had to sell due to over-breeding issues (A huge Silver Appleyard drake on a tiny mallard duck can cause problems). They now reside at a long-time poultry/waterfowl owner/breeder/show-er. I'm proud of them, he said he wanted mallards and that mine we especially nice.
