I was wondering if I can keep my heavy breed layer pullets on Nutrena starter/grower and offer oyster shell, free choice? I will have a rooster running with the flock and know that ca++ is bad for his kidneys. I have also had to supplement protein with 16% layer ration. Is this a good idea, or will the ladies get too heavy over winter?

how old are they?? I generally switch mine over at 17-18 weeks..by then they should start thinking about if not laying and they will need the extra protein in their diet.
