Chickie is supposed to be a Cochin, but she looks a lot like Mille Fluer D'Uccle babies I've seen. The woman I bought the egg from had both, so I'm wondering if it's possible I got an egg mix up?

If not, what color would you call this?

I'm not a d'uccle expert but don't they have beards? Looks more cochin to me but a better profile shot would help.

this is buff

So that fact that it doesn't compare to better quality red birds, makes it a buff? As opposed to a lighter red? I know the difference between buff and red.

Pictures of a Production Red/Rhode Island Red hen from Ideal. See how light her down is? And notice the darker markings amongst the red color. Then look at her adult coloring. That is what I am comparing.

Now look at her daughter. Fathered by a White Silkie rooster. You see the same thing happening.

I wish I could find baby pictures [I'll have to look again!]

She was yellow fluff with a black stripe down her back [I nicknamed her SKUNK!] Now that she's feathering out, she's got the coolest black, brown and buff pattern on the tips of her wings...will that fade as she feathers out more as well?

Found one baby picture...24 hours old!
