Do I need a nesting spot and !!!!! a place for them to roost

Do they sleep in nesting area or do I need to add a place for them to sleep

Hi there, and welcome to BYC!

Chickens like to roost on a roost bar at night. If you have bantam chickens, you can use a 2x2. If you have standard sized birds, a 2x4, with the 4 side up is suitable for them to roost on. The nest boxes are for laying only.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! X2 what TwoCrows said, you want to set up roosts for your birds. You don't want them to get in the habit of sleeping in the nesting boxes, since chickens poop at night they get them dirty really fast. If you do not give them a place to sleep and nest they will make their own and it may not be what you want

It's good to have a poo tray under the roosting area so it catches the debris and makes it easier to clean up.
