I have 8 Ameraucauna hens and the goal is to have all blue eggs. I am very new to this and need some help. Should I wait until they lay and see the egg color before deciding on a pure Ameraucauna roo to assist in making them? Not sure if I am posing the question right but let me know if I need to clarify. Thank you!!

Ok, the eggs you get from your hen will be whatever color they are from her without any rooster being present at all. The rooster does not have a thing to do with egg color of the eggs that are his children. Now, if you breed a blue egg laying hen with a brown egg laying breed rooster, then his daughters will not lay blue like their mothers but the eggs they hatch from will be blue.

Make sense?

As kusanar said, a blue hen to a brown type rooster will net you olive eggs. It depends if you will be hatching eggs. If not then you don't even need a rooster. If you want to reproduce what hens you have then you need a rooster of the same type.
Great info- this is what I was looking for. Thank you bunches! I do want to hatch later down the road and good to know i need the same type of roo as my hens :)
