Do I need to feed the duck by hands

When I was a child, I saw the old people feed the ducks. They opened the ducks' beak and inserted the feed in. I am new to raise ducks for meat in my backyard. Do I need to do that to fast their weight?

this is the way to feed the ducks and the geese if you want to get that big, big liver. it is a common practice in france and hungary. but people that have ducks for eggs or meat don't do that at home. ducks feed themselves enough, you don't need to over-feed them.
 
What you're describing is force feeding and while it may be done in some countries it is banned in others because it's cruel.

Your ducks will be very happy to eat by themselves as long as there is food and water available.

just not something you want to be a part of. raising meat ducks the old fashioned way will taste better. let them be happy for the time they are alive. not force fed small penned shoulder to shoulder crap! im a firm believer in the overall well being of the animal is how it's goinng to taste.

Force feeding meat ducks with a certain custom feed to enlarge their livers yeilds a large tender very good tasting liver when processed is called "FROIS GRAS" and is very prized in gourmet cooking circles and all over the world including the U.S.

This practice does have a purpose and a very good and demanding market, I think it is wrong to label the practice as cruel because of ones mislead beliefs as to the raising of these birds. I have seen first hand this method and the birds are not crammed into cages and treated in a cruel manner, they seemed happy and well adjusted. Although most of this method of raising ducks for this purpose is done in Foreign countries mainly France, it is highly regulated and closely monitored by that countries health ministries. It is my oppinion that is is wrong to label a practice cruel because we don't understand it or it isn't done in our culture. This Frois Gras retails for more than $10.00 - $20.00lb + and is delish.

LOL yeah it is definitely an aquired taste hehehehee, but pretty good if you give it a chance. The one doing the cooking is always the secret LOL.
