We have one Muscovy drake and two Muscovy hens who have gone broody at the same time which dwindles the choices. 1 Cayuga hen, a mallard drake, they have been raised together since hatchlings and are definitely a pair. We added two straight run ducklings about 12 weeks ago. I'm pretty sure they are a khaki Campbell and a welsh harlequin. I've been pretty confident the Campbell is a hen, still not sure about the WH. The concern is that the drake mallard will not stop picking on the Campbell. At first I thought he was just establishing pecking order because he would case her and tug her feathers, but he was relentless about it. Today hubby saw him trying to mount her. My research tells me she is approximately 5 weeks away from laying age. Can him trying to mate with her harm her? Should I separate them or let them figure it out. Hubby says he also thought the Muscovy drake was trying to breed with her as well. She's fully molted and larger than the mallard at this point. But not faster than him. She's obviously smaller than the large Muscovy drake. Any suggestions and advise is welcome. We don't want our flock to be hurt.
