OK I'm new again to chickens (grew up with them, these are my first since I left home) After much consideration I've decided that in my small space I can comfortably house 3-6 birds so I went to the feed store today to pick out my first 3. The goal is egg laying chickens that look cool or have cool looking eggs, so Marans, EEs ...whatever really. So when the feed store guy said he had cuckoo maran pullets I said "I'll take 3"

So when I got home and took them out of the box 2 looked just alike and like text book silver cuckoo maran chicks. The 3rd looks a week older (way more feathered), has brown in her barrs, and silvery legs, but the odd thing is she has poofy cheek fluff (ok... muffs and beard)

I'm actually kinda hoping this is an EE after all since I wanted an assortment, but do marans ever appear to have the muffs like EEs? or does any other breed or mix have this characteristic?

I'm having a terrible time getting a pic. The flash flattens it all out and you cant tell so I'm going to wait for daylight to get a better one.

(kindly disregard the cornish crosses Ms FauxEE is sitting upon, those have gone to my sister's house )

That's an EE.

Cuckoo Marans are solid black with a white dot on the head, then feather out with very faint black and white barring, no brown. Their legs are a pale whitish pink color, too. No puffy cheeks.

Their set up is such that they have a few display chicks out front then they go back to the brooder in the back when you tell them what you want.
