I have 10 week old banties, and was wondering if they should be given grit. My dear husband has not finished their run yet, so they are in the coop 24/7. I feed them starter/grower kernels. I was told feeding them this feed they did not need grit is this true?
Thanks for all responses. Danielle

Yes. You can get "chick grit" at your local feed store.

Although I have always fed crumbles or pellets and have never fed grit, and haven't had a problem.

I only feed grit now, because i've switched to a strictly whole oats diet.

I asked someone the same question and went right out and dug up a spoonful of tiny sand grains and heated it in a skillet and then cooled it and put it in the whole grain rice & wheat ground up to tiny grains, and they're eating it. See https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=83250, "One little, two little, three little Indians . . . "

But because of predator threats and how badly we need these chickens to mature, I have moved them to the bathroom! So far, mother and babies are doing well!
