Do my Birds have a cold? or worse?

Labored breathing, sneezing, & runny eyes.....

I just lost a yokohama this morning she wasn't nearly as bad as the others, and another is totally lethargic (he only just came down with the cold yesterday) I have him wrapped in a towel on my lap, but his breathing is very shallow ...the whole pen came down with this cold last week, the first one who got sick looks all better, the second one seems to still have one really runny eye, but isn't sneezing anymore.

I gave them Duramycin-10 in the water and sprayed them three-four times a day with vet RX...what else can I do? There are no avian specialists around here, but I am looking farther north for one.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

A lot of people on this forum have suggested Tylan 200 at TSC $29.99. I bought this myself last night and now just have to find syringes to inject 1/2cc per bird. best of luck! Also do I search on here and type in sneezing chicken and tylan for more suggestions!

I just got back from the feed store, thankfully they had the tylan & syringes. I do have to say, that it was not easy to give them injections.....argh....I don't look forward to tommorrow.

By the time I got home my other yokohama has passed. This is such a horrid day.

I am having trouble locating syringes or needles in my area so the tylan may be going down the gullet

Go to your pharmacy and buy the short 1cc ultra fine insulin syringes(we have an insulin dependent diabetic in our household, so I'm familiar with this-no other reason

).
In Texas, we don't have to have a prescription for needles or insulin since insulin is a naturally occurring substance in the body.
Smaller gauge needles work best when injecting your birds so that would be my suggestion.

Everyone dislikes giving injections.I have been able to hold them easily and inject them by myself.It helps when you have 100 birds to handle and no one to help) Depending on what hand you use...I'm right handed....I lay the bird on my left arm like a baby,head in my elbow.breast away from me.I pull their legs between my left fingers with one finger between for leverage and control.Once you have this and they are tucked between ur arm and chestthis gives you the control and support and the breast is right there for you.

@ Whiskey Bay- I am going to try your method tommorrow, I am just scared that I might push the needle in to far. Did I also mention...I'm kinda afraid of needles!

I just checked on them and they look really good, except one has a really mucusey eye, but he isn't snotty anymore, so it seem to be working!! Yippie!!!

The needle only needs to go in about 1/4 of an inch. You can do it!
