Do not Relocate predators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only read the first few posts on this topic, so I hope I'm not repeating what someone else already stated. Predators didn't get their classification as "predators" by being the cute little animated animal with a soul that you see on disney. Predators bring to life the phrase "survival of the fittest". Raccoons are one of the worst predators for ground nesting birds. They love to eat eggs, chicks and grown birds when they catch them. These feel good TV shows that kids watch present a VERY slanted view of animals and how to deal with them. Most states allow for the control of predators when they are harming crops or livestock, etc... However, transporting the animals is illegal and dangerous. If you don't have the heart to exterminate a predator you should call a professional to do it for you.

Thank you. The laws I was able to pull up via google made no sence, so I phoned direct and asked, got referred to the legal dept, who were happy to say it was quite illegial to trap and hold for any amount of time, so if you don't plan on killing it, or calling an exterminator to kill it, don't trap it.

Could you please provide the name of the person you spoke to? I'm getting conflicting stories from the DNR.

Call the main number, and ask to speak to the legal dept. I spoke to a woman, sounded mid 50's...

Not only have we had people let dogs, cats, and a rooster go on our property, but people leave unwanted parrots, someone left 2 raccoons in a carrier 2 days ago. Like I really want them!!

So I definitely give you a thumbs up for this post!!

A rooster I might take...... does he still have his spurs? I wonder if I could train him to tell the difference between liberals and conservatives

The key word here is Educate. Most people don't relocate because they want to dump their problems on someone else. I think most people trap and relocate because they think they are doing the right thing for the animal versus killing it.

The DNR should be doing more to educate people ~ unfortunately, this is probably not in their budget nor on the top of their priority list. This thread should be about educating people about how trapping and relocating affects the animal and the enviroment and possible alternative methods. Not scolding them.

And as a previous poster stated...we are building on top of their habitats. In years to come, we will kill kill kill, until they are endangered...then the government is going to step in and we will be forced to find another way to live side by side.

Just my opinion.

Killing predators also helps to spread disease, because it encourages immigration of new predators. More population movement equals more disease spread.

The best solution for predator problems is to PREVENT ACCESS of those predators to your birds.

So I guess what you are saying is the preditors have more rights to kill our animals than we do to protect them?
Am I understanding this right?
the bleeding heart preditor huggers ( that is untill its their animals being killed) have every right to relocate animals to yours, mine and others property to keep the preditors from killing their animals?
for goodness sake you people make absolutely no sense.

Last night I lost chicks to a raccoon, do you think for one minute I am going to allow that , no way in left field. Am I going to relocate it and make it someone elses problem again no way in left field, Unless I can bring it to a preditor huggers property and make it their problem that is.
That makes as much sense as what is being said.
