We don't doubt that something took the puppy. What we are questioning is that a hawk did it.

Golden eagles look a lot like huge hawks. . . . . So do juvenile Bald eagles. . . . . .

I doubt it was a swainsons that took your dog. The largest things they take are around mallard sized birds and ground squirrells. I have a friend in zambia whose dachsund was taken by a marshall eagle. This is why i believe it is an eagle.Also hawks do not carry their prey away unlike eagles which is another reason I think it was one.



This is an immature golden eagle. could this be the "hawk" that took your dog?

I highly doubt a hawk took a dog puppy since hawks barley go after rabbits so how could a hawk kill a puppy that's bigger?  They don't even go after adult hens for the most part if there big hens..  Something isn't right with your story unless it was a eagle

I was talking about swainsons. Red tails do tend to hunt larger prey but still not puppies

I have had red tailed hawks kill way to much poultry. But, unless it was a very young bird, the hawk could not carry it away.

That could be. Good point! But this is a sore subect cent I have been raising German Rottweiler for a few yrs and my sis got one this yr and I took hers not mine. ( we spent over $1200.00 on for her)
