Do people always forget your name?

I don't use my real first name - I go by a nickname given to me years ago and isn't even closely related to my real first name. My nickname is NIKKI - NIKKI. Not Ricky. Not Mickey - last I checked, I'm not a mouse. I just hate HATE HAAATTTEEE it when people sing the Prince song to me. There for a while I had people calling me Sarah for Pete's sake. SARAH? Come on now, really.

My last names have been an adventure unto themselves. My maiden name was Twine - like string. So many people went for Twin-e. The word twin and then the "e". They would pronounce the "e"! Thank you public school systems.

My first married name was Horne - the "e" was silent - but so many people decided to pronounce it. They seemed to think it was clever and they were the only one who had ever thought of that particular joke. Yeah - it lent so much more charm to the conversation.

I went through Basic Training with that name. That was it's own special kind of HE** right there. I constantly had to tell people "That's with an "E" not a "Y". That name alone should have been the clue that I shouldn't have married that man.

My current married name?

We won't go there. I've only had a hand full of people who can pronounce it and I really try to be patient - I really do - since I know it isn't very common - but after 12 years of having people butcher it - it's really starting to get to me.

My name is Mikaela. I've seen it spelled these ways:

Mikeala
Makayla
Mackayla

etc.

One woman actually called me "Mikalela". Where'd the extra L come from?

Also go with:

"Mickey"
"Kayla"

gah...my mom's name was Aneice...
