To be honest, I'd be confused by it. Is it a made-up name or one common in another language that I don't know?

I've not heard of the name Amri. I think if we met I would ask "Emory?"

Yesterday I met a little girl and when I heard her name I asked, "Kaya?" No - Gaya. Sounds like guy-uh. I've not heard that name too.

Everyone calls my daughter, Alannah, Alaina. Her nickname is Lanni and when people see it they call her Laney. Uh-lah-nuh is how it sounds.

Funny name about my name. I'm Stacey, but I get called Stephanie and Sharon and Susan all the time. Tracey some of the time. But when I worked in worldwide telesales I had many customers from Brazil who called me Daisy. "Oh, hello, Daisy" they said 100% of the time. After my 10th referral, a new client called and double checked, "What is your name." I explained that my name was Stacey but that his colleagues called me Daisy. He said, "Let me get this straight, your name is Stacey but you want to be called Daisy." I laughed. No. He told me that in Brazil no one has the name Stacey and so they just filled in my name with what they knew.

In college one of my professors told me Stacey was a boy's name and that my last name was a better first name and my first name was a better last name. Not once did he call on me that semester because he didn't like my name. Such an ego.

It's Dallas Harrell. Not Harold, and not Darrell.

A professor in my major field in college called me Darrell for 4 years. After I while I gave up and just started answering. She was a product of the '60s so I blamed it on her recreational activities.

I am a Larissa...which gets mussed up every which way from Tuesday.

Hence Laree---which is pronounced "LARRY". Since I never write my nickname, people rarely get it wrong.

But it does get my husband weird looks at poker when the guys are commiserating about their wives

Ooh name stuff drives me bonkers!
I go by Abbey, which is never, ever, ever going to be spelled right. Worse, the name on my driver's license and on all official stuff is Aileen, which no one wil ever, ever, ever say correctly. I've spent the past four years being called Aay-leen by professors. I find myself resenting the crap out of them for it, but it's not worth correcting anyone, they won't remember :p
