Do people lie about how many eggs they get??

I’m thinking they may exaggerate but also it depends on the breed and the environment. Mine all lay on a good day and some time half of them lay and I’m happy too.

I have about 15 chickens and get about a 10- dozen a day. Not every chicken lays everyday but close enough. My Wyandotte’s have been very reliable same with my EE.

All of my chickens are between 7 months to a year old. I always have chicks to replace my older chickens only keeping my absolute favorites forever. My older chickens get sold or given away at 1.5-2yrs.

In the winter, I do t purposely have the lights on a timer but because it’s dark early and having a full time job the lights are usually on later in the night while I do chores.

I am in south Texas. I have 12 chickens— 11 hens and one rooster.
they were hatched late summer to early fall.
i am getting 8-11 eggs per day. I feed them the layena pellets. I don’t waste money on the crumbles. They get wasted. I do not do unlimited grazing.
they get one large pitcher full each day.
they are in their coop/run all day.
They are a mixture of Rhode Island reds, dominics, and a couple of buffs.

Ok, so I am so tired of hearing this " I get an egg a day from all my hens" (in like January!!!!)
I have beautiful healthy free ranging hens- They get free choice pellets. BOSS almost every day/or every other day (about 1 cup maybe)? and daily kitchen scraps.
.....and I get about 10 eggs a day from 20 hens.Thats on a good day in sunny but cold March. In January? Maybe 4-5 a day.

I have 3 hens that are 2.5 yr old.
I have 15 hens that are 1.5 yr old
I have 2 hens that are almost 1 yr old.
I have (2)danish brown leghorn, (3)welsummer, (3)Silver Laced Wyandotte, (1)Cream Legbar and (11) Easter Eggers

On a really good day I would get 14-17. In spring. How are all these people getting an egg a day?????

50% is respectable, 75% is more desirable, 100% is probably untruthful. If they are free ranging, I bet they are also hiding eggs somewhere. You may also consider adding some different breeds that are more productive layers. White Leghorn and RIR are more likely to lay an egg a day. Our Easter Eggers never seem to lay more than 3 or so a week.

We definitely don't get an egg a day, more like 75% in the season. We have 40 free range hens (25 that are 3 to 5 years old and 15 that are yearlings). We average 30 eggs a day in the peak of the season and 6 eggs a day in the dark of winter. Thankfully most of the girls lay in the coop most of the time, but we do find eggs hither and yon. Sometimes one will go broody in the bushes and turn up with a bakers dozen of chicks.

I have twelve laying hens, seven of them are four years old, five are 3 and under. I get one egg a day or less! To be fair, I think two of the 3 and under ones are molting.

Eggs in winter for me are like unicorns... they don't exist. At all. I don't supplement lighting though.

Out of 7 hens I get 2 to 4 eggs a day from spring to fall. 3 of my hens are older and one's more or less retired, of the 4 younger ones, one is special needs and only lays a few times a year.
We have a special needs chicken. She has scissor beak, but lays respectably. Glad we aren't the only ones crazy enough to have a special needs chicken. What is your chicken got?

Funny-
I agree with Wyandotte's- not an egg from them all winter- but my EE lay all year round, really well. And my Welsummers. The CLB is pretty good too. the danish brown leghorns arent great either.

Our light goes on at 5 am and off at 9 pm all year.
I dont like sexlinks either.

I have 8 egg layers, all a little over 1 year: 5 easter eggers, 1 Wyandotte, 2 australorps.

my Wyandotte is my best egg layer (I’m a little bit of a dweeb And I keep stats on every egg they’ve ever laid). She laid through winter and so did one of my australorps. I had one easter egger didn’t lay till she was 11 months!!

in the winter, I got about 2-3 a day. Now with it being lighter, I get 6-7 a day. I feed them organic layer pellets and free range them and don’t use lights. I’m guessing next year I won’t be as lucky with them passing their prime

I give a higher protein layer pellet, and they free range and mine laid all winter & all had very light molts, some didn't molt at all. Not all everyday though, I don't keep high production hens. I average a dozen a day from about 20 hens & pullets.
