Do people lie about how many eggs they get??

Ok, so I am so tired of hearing this " I get an egg a day from all my hens" (in like January!!!!)
I have beautiful healthy free ranging hens- They get free choice pellets. BOSS almost every day/or every other day (about 1 cup maybe)? and daily kitchen scraps.
.....and I get about 10 eggs a day from 20 hens.Thats on a good day in sunny but cold March. In January? Maybe 4-5 a day.

I have 3 hens that are 2.5 yr old.
I have 15 hens that are 1.5 yr old
I have 2 hens that are almost 1 yr old.
I have (2)danish brown leghorn, (3)welsummer, (3)Silver Laced Wyandotte, (1)Cream Legbar and (11) Easter Eggers

On a really good day I would get 14-17. In spring. How are all these people getting an egg a day?????

FREE-RANGING. Your chickens free range. They can lay their eggs wherever their little hearts please them, and knowing chickens, it's never where you want them to lay.

My chickens are in a coop/run, so I get every egg they lay, and it's usually 1 a day, per hen. (Hens: 1 GLW, 1 SLW, 1 EE, 1 Australorp, all around 9 months old).

Try penning them all up for a week and not letting them free-range, and I bet your numbers improve. Since you have 3 hens that are 2.5 years, you may not get eggs every day from them, but the 15 hens that are 1.5 years, and the 2 year old hens should be giving you close to an egg a day, skipping a day or two here or there. Your numbers should be better than 10, if you are able to find all of the eggs. ;)

I’m one of them.... not lying.
We’re really lucky I guess.
I have 17 hens. All but one were first years, so they laid through the winter.
But I usually get 14-15 eggs every day.
Since I can identify the eggs from a lot of my hens, I know with certainty that I have seven who lay as close to every day as is possible.
I don’t know how or why, but these hens lay all the time!!
I had a day recently that every hen laid.
I expected the next day to be short, obviously, but I got 15. Same the next two days.
Idk. Luck!

In Carrollton Illinois, mid way between St. Louis Missouri and Springfield Illinois. I January we get ABOUT one egg a day for every TWO hens. now that April is here we are getting 10 eggs a day from 13 hens. We feed them Layer Pellets we get at Farm and Home. I give them 2 scoops a day, 1 scoop of cracked corn and table scrap veggies. We also throw some lawn greens in their run and any bugs we find. I feel an egg a day in January is a nice dream.

During the winter I had 0 to 1 eggs. I have 9 chickens ages 6m to 2.5 years. Now, I have days with 9 eggs.
But, in addition to seasons, light and whatever biological clock.. I feel stressed chickens would not lay eggs. I had 2 young roosters which terrorized some of the chickens in their war for dominance. One was dominant and the other was trying to get whatever he can when his older brother was not watching. Poor chickens, especially more submissive ones were getting hit from both sides. Now that I have 1 rooster, things are much calmer... and egg production is in order.

My little red sex-link gives me 6 eggs a week. But she is only a year old, and she took a 10 week break this winter.

My Icelandics give me about 3-5 eggs a week per hen, and they only took a 3 week break. They are also in their first year.

I am in Montana and give no supplemental light. My chickens free range and eat kitchen scraps and flock raiser pellets.

Sorry if this is already answered, I didn't read through all the replies. Some ppl could be lying, but I'm not sure why they would. An egg a day, or close to it, is possible. It depends on many factors. Maybe the fact that you have 11 EE might play a part in lower numbers? My EE might lay between 3 to 5 a week during good months. Maybe 1 to 3 a week during winter and such. But other breeds might lay 6+ a week. My Golden Buff has an egg pretty much every day and is extremely reliable. I would say most weeks is 7 eggs. She is still pretty consistent during winter, but it doesn't get below 65 degrees here. I'm not sure about winter in colder places. Sorry if this wasn't much help 😬
