Do Racoons Climb?

Do raccoons climb? If they don't, could I use 1/2" HC only on the bottom three feet of the run? I've seen a a lot of people use poultry wire fencing layered with 2x3" wire fencing 14 gauge. Like in the pic I attached. We don't have racoons very often here (once every couple years). The chickens won't be in the run at night. Would it be okay to use the poultry wire layered with the wire fencing for the top three feet? I would use HC all around, but it's around 150$ for a roll that's 4'x 100'. I want to keep my ladies safe! If that isn't a good idea, what other fencing could I find that are cheap and predator proof? Also, the run I'm building is (LxWxH) 45' x 10' x 6'.

Raccoons climb. My dog used to tree them all the time. They climb up on garbage cans. They can pretty much get anywhere they want to be.

I meant the top two feet with the 1x2". If my chickens are at ground level with 1/2" HWC protecting them, That should be fine right?

Since raccoons are rare there AND your girls are only out during the day, the fencing you posted would probably be fine. Just know that welded wire fencing like that will eventually rust and "fall apart" for lack of a better word. (You can pull it apart at the welds very easily by hand.) Especially the cheap stuff like you posted.

Raccoons are excellent forgers. They can climb real well.

My cat treed a racoon, so I'd say yes, they can climb.

Raccoons climb my run all the time, it’s secure and there is a cover so they can’t get in, but you should be carful

I used to have raccoon problem in my backyard. They can jump and climb my fence and use my guest house as escape route.
