My young silkie roo (been crowing for 2 months) only hangs out with my 2 immature Cobb chickens (male and female, not laying or crowing yet). I'd like him to mate with my 2 mature laying hens but he won't go near them. Is his age and inexperience working against him?

Yes, they often can go for younger or smaller easier to get ones! sometimes these are lower in the pecking order so they typically tend to go to them, they just get their favorites, my hedemora LOVES my bantom, and really doesnt like my EE, shes to big for him.

My rooster favors my Wyandotte, only because he dominated her when she was flock leader last year.
Wyandottes are gorgeous, my roo just does it because emilys the easiest to get, isbe honestly scares him, shes huge (like 1 inch bigger then him) older by a slight bit, and gives him the deathglare. Rizo he just doesnt seem to like and emilys short so shes the next best thing

(My GLW ain't very beautiful... 😳 She is the buff Brahma rooster's favorite, poor thing is probably going through feather loss from that, and possibly molting....)(She's gone for months and months without any decent feathering, so I came to the inclusion that she's "his" favorite gal.)

The short answer is YES. Most definitely!

The favorite ones are always near the rooster no matter where he is.
