I two chickens, one of witch i am positive it is a hen, the other, silkie, i'm hoping is a hen but not sure. Well they are 17 weeks old, and today i went outside to find them making a sound i havent heard before. Its that "buck-buck-BIGOCK!!!!!" I'v heard of hens making this so maybe this means they are both hens. I never heard of roosters making this noise, so MAYBE THEY ARE BOTH HENS!!!!!

I'm hoping you've got two hens, but sometimes when our flock is free ranging and one gets lost and wants to find someone, they make a noise that sounds quite a bit like the 'Egg Song.' If a hen does it, our rooster, Mr. Incredible, will call back to her (the same sound).

Maybe one's doing the egg song and the other one is worried she's lost??? I think I've heard people say on here that sometimes the rooster will repeat the egg song back to the hen, but I'm still going to hope that you've just got two young pullets both practicing!

sometimes the hens will be in the coop singing and the roo will be right next to them, singing right back.. it's funny. I always say, "what? You didn't do anything!" goofy bird get over yourself

I've never heard our roo make a hen noise, yah, he clucks, but it sounds different, not so "henish" (does that make any sense?) When every one is singing the egg song he goes into the run and crows. So it sounds like you got two girls but you can't tell for sure until they start laying/crow!

I have witnessed my leghorn and white rock roos call back on a hen in the nest doing the egg song. It is like they are just a bit distracted with the whole thing and give it a courtesy call back.

Then they just go on with their business of chasing the other hens.

Everybody in the coop has a party everytime somebody lays an egg, and more often then not the boys are much louder than the girls.
