do ya all use a gard dog to keep watch over your chickens

With all of the posts on here about dogs killing chickens I was worried about getting chickens, we have 2 dogs, a german shepard & a mutt. I finally bit the bullet & I'm glad I did, the dogs love the birds, they hungout together when the birds were just baby chicks playing on my lap, I guess the dogs just learned that they were pets too. We've NEVER had an issue. The german shepard sleeps out back with them.

Okay, I got him. I just made arrangements to pick up a male Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix pup for my third dog this coming weekend. If we like their parents enough when we visit, we may get two.

Man, ya just can't beat a good dog to protect your animals. Y'all can joke about your guns all you want. I like mine fine and shoot pretty well with it, but these things will be sleeping with my animals. I ain't about to do that.

This morning I went out to find Bear (my dog I posted about earlier) with an oppossum in his mouth! I heard him barking in the middle of the night for a while but then he just stopped. I guess the oppossum just got a little too close for Bear's comfort. He was about 15-20 feet from the coop at about 5 in the morning laying there with the oppossum in his mouth! He killed it and was holding it for me to get rid of... at least I would like to think so... He knows what is supposed to be near the coop and whats not!
