Natural, like old age or scared to death by a barking dog? Sure. Anything else, no.
If it's been out dead for longer than 30min-1hr it's risk is getting higher. But then again, we live in a world that sees a lot as wrong or taboo. If you want to and have built up a good immunity to it, why not?
I eat 'raw' bacon, from the store, it's smoked, I call that cooked, lol. Idk, that's from growing up, my family eats it like that, I've never gotten sick from it. They say being afraid of bacteria and using meds for everything is causing super resistant diseases. I'm pretty sure all those homeopathic meds used to work, back before all these drugs showed up.
OKay. The three "no"s are what I expected. So, just to be clear, do you eat your birds only if you dispatch them yourself?
... and thank you all for the input.
I did! I had a Cornish X that was fine one morning. Then late morning I looked out the window and saw him lying motionless in the corner. Further inspection confirmed he was dead and I didn't want to waste the meat so took him in, cleaned him up, cooked him and ate him - he was FINE. I don't know how long he was dead before I noticed him but guessed it was <2 hours.
Cornish x's usually die from organ failure from eating non-stop, right? I'd feel more comfortable with a recently croaked Cornish X knowing that than I would any other type of bird.
