Do You Eat a Chicken When You Don't Know Why It Died?

I had 4 of my meaties die before processing and Nope I threw them away. Didnt know how long they had been dead:-( Less than 10 hours from when I tucked them to bed-but I wasnt eating it

If I ate my chickens I probably would eat them if they drop dead of apparant healthy beginnings.

My boys eat nasties off the floor and their boogies and are the healthiest kids at their preschool and kindegarten... we are nasty I guess... and we aren't ever the ones with strep or the flu.

And you all know that just plain soap and water is best for your hands, right? The alcohol santizer dries out your hands and makes them more permiable to germs and viruses (you can google for the appropriate studies). Just use common sense - always cook your chicken well, wash your hands.

I would not eat a chicken that died from a unknown cause or due to illness. I was going to process and eat half a dozen that some dogs killed but the missus said she wouldn't, so I didn't.

What if your bird was sick and you did not know it, would you still eat it? chances are you probably did. Depends what happened to it. If a dog ripped his head off I would probably eat it if I found it right away and could bleed it out, unless it was a silky.

There is no way I would eat anything that died regrless of my thoughts on health prior to dieing. I do not even feed that to my dogs. I will eat only healthy birds. If I suspect they are sick before I dispatch with them, they go into the burn pile. Only healthy birds make it into the food chain here.

I have had several die from unknown causes over the years and have never considered eating them unless they die in my sight. The main reason I don't is that I process my chickens for the table and if I can't bleed them out properly the flavor will be way off and the muscle meat filled with blood. so no I wouldn't eat it if it were me, JMO
