Those issues can occur in any egg . . . they aren't any more likely in first eggs. Though if you feel you simply can't eat them, feel free to send them here, and I'll let you know if I taste anything strange as I gobble them down!

The first egg has been sitting on the kitchen counter on a candlestick/shrine sort of setting for the last three weeks. My first grandchild is due in 2 months (WOO HOO!) and I'm going to blow it out and make a Christmas ornament for the baby. The shells from my eggs seem so much thicker than store bought that I thought this could be a keepsake ornament.

I received a Christmas ornament made from an egg shell for my wedding party 33 years ago and it still has a place of honor on our Christmas tree.

So, no we didn't eat the first egg, but have thoroughly enjoyed every egg since then!

I saved the first eggs from my three girls. I was showing them to my wife (again) the other day and dropped one!!! She gasped so loud I didn't hear it hit the floor

I was going to blow them out but now..... nothing is permanent and I might as well eat them along with the others.

Ditto! The only issues I've ever seen in a first egg was in the really tiny ones...they sometimes do not have a fully formed yolk. Still yummy though!

Our first two eggs arrived on the same day, one was your typical egg although a bit small, the other had a rubbery soft shell. Not a suprise for first eggs.

After taking pictures of them in the coop where I found them, I brought them inside and arranged them on a pretty plate, then took pictures of them together on the plate, then pictures in comparison to a store bought egg ~ I then cracked each into an individual bowl - even the rubber shelled egg looked fine. Then took pictues of them in the bowls. Then scrambled both, took pictures of them cooking, pictures of them cooked and then pictures of us eating our first eggs. (see my BYC for an abbreviated pictorial)

Oh and of course I emailed them out to family members. Then I actually bored friends and coworkers with pictures of my first eggs. For awhile our first egg pictures was our screensaver!

Now am I an officially qualified for the title of BYC Nerd or what!!!!!

I wish I was a BYC member when my hen had her first egg. I was told by a not so knowledgable friend

that you don't eat the egg for about the first 2-3 weeks. I was giving them to the dogs as my friend told me to do. What was I thinking? I asked someone else who said the same thing. Why not eat the first egg? What could be wrong with it? Now we eat ALL the eggs.
