Do you ever encounter people that don't know where eggs come from?

I was raised in town, it wasn't until us kids were grown that my parents moved to the country. soon they had a few standard size chickens, and 1 bantum hen. at a family get together, my mom was telling her sister about the chickens and she asked to see the eggs. my mom went to the fridge and got out the eggs and my aunt was just tickled about the tiny banty egg. then she asked my mom, " now, how long will it take for that little egg to grow to regular size?"

Someone I work with sasked me why would I want chickens and what would I do with them - he didn't know that eggs come from chickens......this was an adult of 28 years old who has children.....scary.................

So I just started my little "hobby" farm a little over a year ago, and my father couldn't be prouder. His wife was all excited for me in the beginning, loved all the eggs she was getting as gifts, loved my roasted chicken dinners. She loved it, until the day we were at the dinner table and out of the middle of a conversation she said...
"You mean these are your eggs? How can you kill your chickens for their eggs? Aren't they your pets?"
Apparently this 50 year old woman was a little confused about how eggs come out of a chicken, while it is alive. Now she has become vegetarian, thanks to me and my chickens who lay eggs while living.

I'm a city girl, who's been around animals all my life. But, I have never known anything about chickens. I still don't, even with a flock of twelve.

I always knew that eggs came from chickens, however.

But, I still don't know anything about how my rooster fertilizes the eggs. I don't know how the "deed" is "done." Yes, I know that my rooster mounts the hens. But, I still don't know how he accomplishes what he does.

I guess I need a lesson in "Chicken Sex 101."

Uh, I think that idea takes the prize for weirdness! Some people really need to learn a bit more about their food!

I think that most people these days need some farm experience!

Yep, that's about the strangest thing I've heard!

Wait! Let me get this straight... She became a vegetarian when she found out that living chickens laid eggs? So... she would rather the eggs were harvested by killing the chickens first, then consider eating them when they're layed from a living bird? Oh My! I sure don't know what to say about this one!!

Scary.

She never said why she has become vegetarian, just that she has never been vegetarian until now, after visiting my place, and seeing where her food was coming from. I think the thought of seeing the live bird that makes the eggs was a turn off for her. Plus seeing the bird that she then ate also had some influence on her being vegetarian. I guess some people just can't see past the grocery shelf.
