Right after we got our chicks, I made chicken for dinner. And my 6 year old asked what we were eating.
Me: It's chicken.
Him: Like our chicks.
Me: Yes.
Him:
He ate it just the same. He frequently asks me about the meat we have for dinner and I've always related it to the animal it comes from. It doesn't seem to bother him, but he's definitely curious about it. My father raises cows, so he's familiar with what happens to them.
I do agree that we (as people) are too disconnected from our food source. There would be a lot less wasting food and more respect if people had to kill their own food. (We haven't done it yet, but DH and I have considered doing meat birds)
