Do you ever encounter people that don't know where eggs come from?

My boyfriend refuses to eat the eggs from my chickens cos of where they come from, but he will eat store bought eggs...

As a person who likes to think well of others until proven wrong, I always preferred to hope that my neighbors were keeping game breed chickens for show and as a hobby.

I never saw them close up, but they generally seemed to be kept by people who took pride in them and gave them good lives.

I have to ask, because I've seen it around here - how do people keep their roosters on leashes? I've seen them - I guess they don't want them fighting each other....but leashes???? How do hey not strangle themselves?

The lead was attached to one leg.

I presume some sort of anklet made from leather or other non-chafing material was fastened to the leg. I don't know if swivels are made in chicken-sizes or not.

Mankind has tethered livestock when fencing was either too expensive or impractical for as long as mankind has kept livestock so I'm sure that they've worked out the details.

I wonder if the arrangement would work for a situation where you have multiple roosters in a flock and want to range them simultaneously without dominance fights? Tether the roosters out of each others' reach and let the hens range?

Granted my roosters are young (23 weeks) but they have little spats here and there. I don't see a need to separate them though. There hasn't been any real harm done (other than embarassment). I let them free range most of the time but even at night they huddle and cuddle on the roost instead of spreading out. They were raised together so that probably make a lot of difference, but still, I wouldn't tether them, to me that just seems mean.

I sometimes go out to the coop and gather fresh eggs still warm from the chicken, to eat right away. To me, that's a miracle of freshness! (Kind of like putting a huge pot of water on to boil, then going out to pick corn in the field next door.)
Anyway, one morning when a friend was staying here I had no eggs in my house so I got some from the coop.
I made a big mistake, I guess, when I encouraged her to "feel how warm they are". She was grossed out and said she didn't want eggs after all.

Wow! I am so glad that my parents made sure I had a well rounded education. We never had farm animals but I knew where my food came from and it didn't bother me. My brother is another story though. He knew what it was but didn't like to think about it. One time I got sent away from the table when I passed him the pork roast and asked if he wanted some pig flesh. LOL He was so grossed out.
Just this past year one of DH's friends g ot laying hens and we started getting fresh eggs from them. They have quite a few diffent kinds but I like the EE ones the best. They are so sweet tasing! One time DH came home w/eggs and half were brown so I asked if the EE's were not laying and he said they were but she wouldn't sell us the eggs because they were stained!! LOL
I guess she had sold some at first and people didn't like the stained eggs but I told her I didn't care.
I just got a foundling bantum and can't wait to have tiny eggs!!

A few years ago I had a lady stop by to buy some chickens.Earlier while I was feeding I had put a laid egg on top of the coop(I forgot to get it).As we walked by she asked me "Will that egg hatch up there like that"
I said of course !!!...
