Do you feed BOSS in the summer?

Wow, I gotta move to Oklahoma!!!!! I pay $16 for a 50lb bag of BOSS. Are your seeds small and all black or big and striped (cuz that's not BOSS). My TSC (in PA) is more expensive than my Agway so I get the BOSS there unless I can get it on sale at TSC then it's around $15.

Really, I think Oklahoma is the #1 Welfare State, so our things are cheaper, but we also get paid alot less too

It has been around 20 days in a row with temps 95 or higher !!!. It does'nt seem to bother my chickens too much.

How old do they have to be to eat them??? I just got a bag (40lbs for 750 because it was half off)... Anyway my girls won't eat it!!! What is wrong?

I'm guessing they have to be as big or bigger than bantams- I'm only saying this as the bantams do eat some but don't go crazy for it while all the LF birds go GA GA over it and always go into velocaraptor mode when I toss it around. I know that my 3 month old white leghorns have no problems eating it (they are bantamish sized right now)

....it is die, and you would have done it twice here...our temp yesterday was 97* with a heat index of 104ish! My chixs are not happy even with 2 fans! I dont feed corn to anything in this heat...horse, chixs, people...well, maybe just 2 ears of sweet corn apiece! Stay cool!

I feed wild birds, coarse chips, no shells. There is no mess to clean up which is worth the higher price.

The chickens love it althought it is way more expensive than the developer crumbles they ar supposed to eat.

Question: do chickens hull their seed like parrots do? or do they eat them whole and let their gizzard deal with the hull?

They swallow them whole, the shells are softer than striped sunflower so they are easier to digest. I think the shell has the oil, in black oil sunflower seeds, it's what keeps their feathers nice and healthy when you feed them.
